Play and Creative Arts Therapy

pexels-alexander-grey-1148998.jpg

I offer 1 : 1 Play Therapy sessions at my private practice and travel into schools and family/children support centres. I often base my sessions on a child lead approach through non-directive play. The tool kit I use which has been carefully curated through time and experience, provides a variety of materials and resources, that foster the child’s therapeutic journey. This includes: Puppets, sand trays, music, toys, games, storytelling, arts and crafts and other therapeutic resources.

Play Therapy for Private Practice

How Does it Work?

Play Therapy is a process that cannot be rushed. It allows children the chance to be able to find the answers for themselves. My sessions are safe, friendly and relaxed. Children know they can be free to express themselves however they wish, whether it be verbal or through the act of art, music or other creative means available in the play room.

I offer a free initial consultation with you, (parent/carer), where we discuss your child's needs. This can be done over the phone or in person.  If you want to go ahead and Play Therapy has been agreed I will ask you to fill in a referral form and sign an agreement.

In order for Play Therapy to have a positive impact for your child a minimum of 15 sessions is required. Each session is 45 minutes long and are scheduled for the same time and day each week. It is important to maintain consistency with the sessions in order for the therapeutic process to work.

I review regularly with the parents/carers to give an update on the progress and to also give any advice or support needed.

All therapy is confidential and I follow my own safeguarding policy.

Play Therapy for Schools

Schools can be the one true consistency in a child's life and plays a huge part in their future and wellbeing. Schools are usually the place where changes in behaviour are noticed first. I work regularly in schools providing a variety of support. I can provide a  full day or mornings of Play Therapy.

I provide 1:1 Play Therapy sessions and wellbeing support groups for pupils of all ages. I require the consistency of the same room, on the same day at the same time. This is a very important part of the childs therapeutic process.

I conduct pre and post play therapy parent and staff interviews as well as ongoing parent/staff liaison and support during the play therapy process. Once sessions are taking place, I offer regular verbal reports and updates on each child’s Play Therapy progress, without breeching the child's confidentially rights.

I measure the impact by using Goodmans Strengths and difficulties questionnaire. These are completed pre and post Therapy. These are also collected as an interim to evaluate the progress of the Play Therapy.

Parental Support

Many parents/carers that I have spoken with feel they are constantly battling with their child's behaviours, leaving them feeling overwhelmed and/or frustrated.

I can support you in re building a positive relationship and connection with your child through demonstrating playful ideas and approaches that you can use at home. As a Parent child attachment Play (PCAP) provider, I work with you using a ten step model showing you three key steps to help strengthen parent-child relations. Using these steps, you will get an insight into the joy in bringing play back into your life with your child!

I can offer one-off consultations or a block of sessions for parents who want advice and support for their child's wellbeing. In these consultations I can show you approaches and strategies that have proven to help a child's emotional wellbeing.

I like to give you, the parent/carer, time to discuss and explore ways in how you can ensure you are putting in time for your own self care. Being a parent is tough and we forget to allow ourselves that important 'me time'. We all need it!
